Our registered nurse provides a gentle procedure for removing ear wax using a special micro-suction machine which reduces the possibility of damage or infection compared to other methods.
WHY SHOULD YOU BOOK?
It is best to make a booking if any of the following applies to you, or if you have an ongoing ear issue that has not settled:
Excessive and impacted wax
Discharging ears – suppurating Otitis Media
Otitis Media with Effusion (Glue Ear-middle ear infection)
Otitis Externa (outer ear canal infection)
Foreign Body removal
Mastoid Cavity maintenance
Routine clearing of earwax for Hearing Aid clients
ACC and war pension funded (ACC no longer fully funded)
WHY CHOOSE MICRO-SUCTION?
Wax removal is carried out under “direct vision” (special ear microscope), this enables us to safely remove any debris, wax, etc. whilst being able to see into the ear at all times. This is less invasive than syringing and has less chance of causing pain and infection. Because of our training, and experience in this field we can assure patients that all procedures are done with the utmost care and precision.
WHAT ELSE CAN I DO?
In normal circumstances, our ears are naturally self-cleansing and earwax is only removed if excessive or causing a problem. However, if you do have a blocked ear caused by excessive wax it may be helpful to see your Chemist and purchase 3% Peroxide, Almond Oil, or Olive Oil to see if it will loosen the wax. This may make your ear feel more comfortable, however if it persists it is best to get this looked at professionally.
Your GP may prescribe other drops for loosening the wax if it is badly blocked. This may also help to settle inflammation.
Do not attempt to clear your ear with cotton buds, hair clips or matchsticks. This is harmful to your ear and there is a risk of perforating your eardrum.
